Here are a few more pictures from August:
Dorie watching some tv with me
Nora built this fun ring-shaped tunnel out of several boxes, and put some treats in there for the rats to find. They have had lots of fun with it
Nora giving them some rat treats
The kids played some Rock Band and watched stuff with me during my surgery recovery
Dorie and Nora are BFFs
A very weird looking picture of Oliver
Carrie came to visit Utah for a few weeks, and we had a lot of fun hanging out with her!
Since we had just watched the live action Lord of the Rings movies, we decided to watch the animated ones that were made in 1978 and 1980. The Return of the King movie had some really catchy songs, especially "Where There's a Whip, There's a Way"
I finally got around to doing a refresh on the meme wall, and Nora helped me cut them out and tape them up
We also did a special edition meme wall around the corner, and it it called "The Lord of the Memes," and it has all Tolkien-themed memes
Nora and I went to the mall to do a little shoe shopping before she left for school, and we had to stop by to look at all the cool stuff in the Lego store. We especially were excited to see this one of Barad-dur, the Dark Tower, from Lord of the Rings.
Getting a little lunch at hotdog on a stick
Carrie made this amazing peach, tomato, and cheese salad
Playing some Jackbox games
Mike, Carrie, and the kids played a game of Eurorails. It is a really long game, and they split it over a couple of days. I think it took 5 hours total
We had an Olympics-themed Sunday dinner. We made the rings with different fruits on plates (and Oreos for the black ring), and some "gold medals" out of golden oreos and fruit by the foot
The medals
I went with Sam to his Back to School night so we could meet all of his teachers. I liked this Periodic Table of Broadway Musicals that was hanging up in the drama classroom
It started absolutely pouring rain when we were done, so we ran as fast as we could out to the car but we still got soaked
More Eurorails
Juno on top of Mike's computer when his desk is in standing position - I think she loves being so tall
For book club this month we read Remarkably Bright Creatures. One of the main characters is an octopus that lives in a tank in an aquarium.
We had the book club meeting at Kate's house this month, and were welcomed by Louis and Felix
Kate made a fun aquarium inspired treat
We saw a special edition Beetlejuice Fanta flavor and were curious and got it to try. It is called Haunted Apple, and tastes like a spiced apple cider
One of the best things about this time of year is the delicious fresh peaches!
Playing some more Jackbox
The cute lil rats love to play and explore
Oliver being dramatic about wanting his night night treats
This is the look we get from Dorie when we are going out to the car and she isn't able to come with us 😢
Lemon themed tablescape for the month
We played some Slap Jack with Kate
A spectator showed up
How does he always manage to look so silly?
Trying the "speed" version of Eurorails
Our first facetime with Nora after she moved to Logan
To celebrate Mike's birthday, we got dinner from JcW's
We got a lemon and berry cake for dessert
For his birthday activity, we watched Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
This is the scene that makes it perfect for celebrating a 42nd birthday - when they built a giant super computer to calculate the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything, and it comes up with the answer of 42. Hehe.
Playing a round of Settlers of Catan
Charlie and Coco - still trying to figure out how to get to Forbidden Island
The ratlings LOVE it when Grandpa (aka Mike) comes to visit them
Playful pup
Nora has a class called Connections for new students, and for one of their activities they did some chalk drawings on campus. Nora helped with this one of Big Blue, the USU mascot
Some other people in her group drew this one of becoming a "True Aggie" lol
She also got to participate in the luminary event for the incoming freshmen
Dorie looking out the car window on the way to Sunday dinner
Grandpop made this delicious baked Alaska dessert!
Getting a picture with Carrie before she went home
Sometimes I get the feeling I'm being watched...
Poor little Charlie needed to take another round of medications. I looked online for suggestions to make it easier, and read that some people mix the medications with a little bit of chicken baby food. I tried that out, and Charlie loved it. Yay!
The rats sitting on my lap eating a little strawberry treat
Max and Oliver went to the vet for their checkups. Max needs to go back on meds for his tummy issues, and Oliver needs to go on a prescription diet for early signs of kidney disease. Other than those things, they seems to be doing pretty well for senior cats.
