Our hotel had a very impressive breakfast room and buffet. It was a great way to start off the mornings
We visited the famous Lions, Patience and Fortitude, that are in front of the New York Public Library. Last time that Mike and I were in NYC they were under restoration and covered up, so it was really fun to see them!
Nora and I peeking out in the back
We saw LOTS of pigeons
When I was researching things to do in NYC for animal lovers, one of the suggestions I found was the Museum of the Dog. We paid it a visit and had a great time!
One of the first things they have you do there is get your picture taken and it matches you up with a breed of dog
There are lots of different artworks portraying dogs, as well as some other dog related exhibits
These are some scavenger hunts that you can do if you want. Nora decided to fill out the one on the left, and got a pencil for a prize
This is Mike next to a giant carousel dog
Nora and I wore our dog shirts for the occasion, hehe
Some dog fossils
This was one of my favorite paintings. It was titled "Willpower" lol
There were some interactive screen tables where you could learn about different breeds of dogs
Mike looking up what it had to say about Australian Cattle Dogs (the breed Dorie is)
The elevator
There was a giant display case that went up the whole stairway that had lots of smaller figurines, trophies, and statues
In this exhibit, you could try training a virtual dog with voice and hand commands
This was very interesting info about some of the different kinds of jobs dogs can be trained to do
This was a painting called "What Will He do With It?" - the little dog in the front has found a hedgehog
A painting of a cute little Westie - the kind of dog Oswald is
I loved this painting. It is called "Dog Walking in Central Park" and is done in a folk-art style. There are all kinds of fun dog details when you look closely
Some posh Scotties
This one reminded me a little of Fritz
Nora checking out the dog anatomy display
In the back of the top floor, they have a library area full of books about dogs!
There is also a coloring table with lots of coloring pages of dogs, so we each did one
Some more interesting objects on display:
An armchair with carved dogs on the arms
A tiny Pug Band
A Victorian-style Dog House for a Chihuahua
A display about Smoky - a little Yorkie that helped save lives in WWII, and afterward became the first therapy dog on record
Some of my favorite childhood films featuring dogs in the movie poster display
They also had a fun gift shop with all kinds of dog-themed merchandise
After leaving the museum, we walked a little ways for lunch
A cool building we passed by
Looking up at the Chrysler Building
We had read about a Japanese grocery that has a counter where they make fresh onigiri, and another counter where they make ramen, so it sounded like a perfect place to stop for lunch. They had all kinds of other Japanese foods as well. It's called Katagiri Japanese Grocery.
We got some onigiri filled with shrimp, and some beef udon. It was really, really good!
After lunch we walked over to Grand Central Station
The exterior of the Grand Central Terminal building
Inside - I love all the decorative carvings, and cool constellation ceiling
We went back to the hotel for an afternoon rest, and then headed to our evening show - Moulin Rouge!
I think my very favorite part of it was how they decorated the theater!
It is quite a spectacle! Lots of the pop music selections that they used in the movie have been changed for the musical. I really enjoyed the scenery, costumes, dancing and singing. The plot is easier to understand in the musical than it was in the movie, but they made a couple of plot changes in the musical that I didn't like. Overall it was really fun and very high energy!
We were feeling hungry after the show, and stopped by the Tavern across the street from our hotel to get a bite to eat.
