Sam's First Haircut

Sam's hair had been getting a little shaggy in the back lately, so I finally decided it was time for his first haircut.

Here is the "before" picture
He's so excited! He doesn't know what is about to happen to him. Hehe.
Nora took a few pictures of me giving him a haircut with the clippers. They are not the most flattering pictures, but they are pretty funny.

Here are the "after" pictures

Father's Day!

For Father's Day, the girls helped me make waffles for a special breakfast. We topped them with whipped cream and berries.
After church, we went up to my parents' house. Here is Sam chillin' in his highchair.

Bethany made a lemonade bar with freshly-sqeezed lemonade and different flavorings you could put into it
This is the card Nora gave my Dad. She drew an owl on the front.
And this is what she wrote inside
Mom decorated the table with owls, since my Dad loves owls, and collects owl figurines and statues.
Beth and Kate made a big owl out of cupcakes
and 4 little owlets - to represent my Dad's 4 girls
We made some GF cupcake owlets
This is the card Nora made for Mike. It says "Dade (Daddy)" on the front
And this is what she wrote inside. She did it all by herself!

What could be in these long, skinny boxes?
Yay! Ties!

We made a visit to the cemetery where Mike's dad is buried. We brought some flowers, and Nora wanted to make a card to put on them. She drew a picture of Grandpa with Simon, the cat. She said since they are both in heaven, Simon can be Grandpa Griffin's cat now. I thought that was really sweet.

Happy Father's Day to all the great dads out there.

Robot Party!

While Karin's family was up in Utah, we had a robot birthday party for Will. Bethany and I were in charge of making cupcakes. I made some gluten-free ones so Evie could have them. Beth sent me an email with a link to these cute cupcakes, made by Hello Naomi, and that was the inspiration for the cupcakes I made. As usual, Nora was my little helper, so here is a picture of her with the cupcakes.
Nora also wanted to make a robot, so she used some of the fondant and made this robot face on a plate for Will.
When we got to the party, they had a fun robot craft for the kids to do. They were stickers that you put on a foam cutout to make a little robot.

The decorations were very cute
This was my favorite - a little bucket that said "computer chips" with potato chips inside. Hehe.
My mom saw this idea on TV - a banner made with cute paper napkins
Bethany and Kate made this cool cupcake robot. The best part (although the cupcakes were very tasty) was they made a stop-motion video of it baking, and being put together and at the end Beth was able to make her voice sound like a robot saying "Happy Birthday Will". That was a huge hit with everyone - very cool!
Here is a photo of the ones I made
a different angle - all the little girls loved the pink and purple girl robot
The kids were able to eat on a very large blanket at the party
The dinner buffet - hot dogs, BBQ sandwiches, watermelon, salad and chips
For the party activity, Mom and Dad saved up all kinds of empty boxes, plastic bottles, pop cans, etc. and the challenge was to use them to make a robot. There was also gold and silver wrapping paper, pipe cleaners, and various kinds of tape and stickers.

Happy birthday, Will! It was fun for all of us to be able to celebrate with him.
