On the Saturday over Memorial Day weekend, we headed down to Ephraim to go to the Scandinavian Heritage Festival they have there. This was our first time going, and we weren't really sure what to expect, but we had a great time.
We started out by getting the kids' faces painted
We listened to some music by Mountain Strings
Then we got to watch the BYU Folk Dancers do some Scandinavian dances
They invited up anyone from the audience that wanted to learn a dance. Sam and Nora gave it a try.
Next they taught a dance that needed groups of 3, so Evie joined them
They had beautiful costumes
The kids were able to get a picture with the group
Afterward, we went and watched some children do several dances, including May pole dances
Then we headed over to the pioneer section, and the kids got to try some pioneer games
Stilts:
Hoops and Graces (Hoop Toss)
Rolling Hoops - this one is pretty tricky!
All of the kids wanted to try carrying the "water buckets" (they were empty)
We learned about pioneer trades and activities
Spinning yarn
Wood Working
Clothes making and embroidery
Pioneer Toys
This lady taught us about all different kinds of dolls - rag dolls, handkerchief dolls, dolls stuffed with wheat, and ones they could buy in the stores back then.
Swedish flag
Danish Flag
Norwegian Flag
We went and looked through the booths that were set up. There were all kind of things for sale, as well as food booths. We were able to visit Grandma Griffin who was helping her sister with her craft booth.
The kids picked Italian Ices for their treat (Not very Scandinavian, but that's ok!)
Mike and I shared a cherry cheesecake funnel cake
Meeting Smokey the Bear
Smokey's games
The kids were dancing to some more music!
On the drive home, we passed through a short but furious hail storm!
So green
