September Misc.

A few more pictures from our goings-on in September:

One Friday I got to go to Evie's class and help with their Utah salt dough map project

We finally did it - we got a minivan! It is nice having the extra room for everyone

This was pretty unusual - Dorie and Max fast asleep on the bed together with no human to keep the peace!

Kate and the Madisons went on a really cool European trip this month to attend my cousin Jeff's wedding in France, and to visit some other beautiful places. Kate Facetimed me one afternoon, and also tried talking to Dorie. This is Dorie's weirded out face. Hahaha!

Mike and I saw lots of bunnies while walking in Highland Glen park

Mike and I were able to go to a U football game while my parents were out of town, and they had some members of the SEAL team parachute onto the field

We went on a little family drive up the canyon

Sam started feeling carsick, so we pulled over and he got some fresh air in the woods. Luckily it didn't take him long to start feeling better!

I went to a cooking class one night to learn how to use my Instant Pot, and when I got home Nora had baked a cake by herself!

This tips cup at Fiiz made gave me a chuckle. The kids had no idea what a mullet was.

Cute Sades curled up in the guest room

For one of their big projects in 6th grade, each student needs to make a model of one of the 7 ancient wonders of the world. Nora picked the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, and I thought she did a great job!

Kate got Mike a WowBox for his birthday, and he was very excited when it came!

It had lots of awesome Japanese treats and snacks

Sam wrote a very cool song called "The Very Sorry Song"
The lyrics are:
I am very sorry I stole your precious diamonds
Bump bump bump bump
It is so sad, It is so sad
Just don't do it anymore you scalleywag
Bump bump bump bump

Nora organizing her Pokemon cards on my bed with Max

If you lie down on my bed, chances are Max will come lie down on you!

Cornbelly's

On Sept. 18, Mike's work had an evening at Cornbelly's for his department. It was a really fun way to get us excited for the Halloween season coming up!

The giant rocking chair

The giant swing - it is pretty tricky to get up into this thing, haha

They have a display that shows how pullies can make things much easier to lift

Making scared faces in front of the Insanity Point sign

By far, the kids' favorite activity was the "Bee Line" which was a little zipline area

This was an interesting activity

Mike and I got a funnel cake - it looked pretty weird, but still tasted good

I got to be the 3rd pumpkin, because none of the kids wanted to be "the ugly one", haha

School Pictures

The kids had great school pictures this year

Art with Grammy - Rousseau Tigers in the Jungle, and Kandinsky Circles

The first art project this month was inspired by Henri Rousseau's "Tiger in a Tropical Storm" painting, as well as his other jungle paintings.

The kids used painted papers we had made previously, and cut out and decorated their own tiger, then cut out lots and lots of different kinds of grasses, leaves, vines, etc. to create their own jungle background.

This project took two sessions to finish. Here the girls are gluing on leaves and greenery.

The finished tigers

Sam named his tiger Hobbes

The piece that inspired the next project, was Kandinsky's
"Squares with Concentric Circles"

This project also took a few sessions. At the first one, we each got a background paper that had been folded to make the square grid, and we painted each square a color. The rule was that if the squares were touching sides, they needed to be a different color. Next, colored circles of various sizes needed to be cut out, and then arranged on contrasting colored squares. Lastly, all the circles were glued onto the background paper.

The finished pieces - this was a very colorful project!
