Father's Day

We had a good time celebrating Father's Day this past weekend

Mike with the kids

The kids made some really nice cards for Mike

Kate had this fun idea to put together a Taste-Off with donuts from some of the well-known donut places in the area for our Dad, and Mike. I helped her pick out the flavors to get from each place, and she picked them up and put together the ratings sheet.

Yummy!

One of the donuts was toilet paper shaped, and it was a good representation of the weirdness of this year

 Tasting the donuts

Kate had also put together a fun trivia about all the fathers in the family that we did over a zoom meeting. We learned lots of interesting things about my Dad, Ricky, Mike, and Reece!

In the evening we had a family movie night, and watched "Raiders of the Lost Ark". The kids have ridden the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland lots of times, but this was their first time seeing an Indiana Jones movie, so that was fun. Max and Dorie cuddled with Mike.

YW Bake-Off

For a Young Women's activity, Nora's group did a baking activity, where the leaders dropped off a cake mix and a can of frosting, and the girls could make whatever they wanted. They had a zoom meeting later on to show each other what they made. Nora had been interested about working with fondant, so she learned how to make some marshmallow fondant to use to decorate cupcakes. Mike had the idea to decorate them like different emoji faces, and Nora liked that idea.

Nora and Evie coloring the fondant

Sam thought it looked fun, so he helped make a couple of faces

The finished cupcakes!

The next week, Evie's group did the same activity. She decided to also make cupcakes, and she decorated them with fondant. She picked icons from the Animal Crossing game for her decoration inspiration - a present, cherries, peaches, apples, a leaf, a bells bag (like a money bag), and a pitfall seed.

The finished cupcakes!

May Misc.

May was another interesting month of social distancing and spending a lot of time at home. The kids finished up the school year online, and Mike is still working from home.

Oliver is Mike's work buddy - he hangs out with him in the office

Oliver fell asleep sitting up under Mike's desk, haha

Max loves having us home so much and getting so much attention - Oliver is not so sure...

One of the big highlights of the month was Nora was finally able to get her braces off!

I wish I could say that Oliver didn't bring in any more snakes after the first one...but he brought two more.
Second snake - Oliver dropped it off on the first step on the stairs down to the basement

Nora gently put it into a box and we took it to the field

Nora holding the snake before she put it down and it slithered away

Third snake - One day I was having a bad migraine, so I was lying down in the guest room in the basement. Mike came in to check on me, then he told me Oliver had brought a snake down and it was in the room with me. I thought he was joking at first, but I looked over and sure enough, Oliver had brought me a snake. I'm just glad he didn't put it in the bed. This poor snake didn't fare as well as the other two, and was dead by the time we discovered it.

Max had to check it out too
Sam went around the perimeter of the backyard, and blocked up any little gaps under the fence that Oliver might be using to escape and search the field. Since then we have not had him bring us any more snakes or mice (knock on wood)

 Naps are the best

Hanging out with Dorie and Max (he is on the back of the chair). My cats flying in space shirt has been getting a lot more wear lately, haha

A big part of the month was making masks for Project Protect. I enlisted Nora, Evie, and Mike to help turn masks right-side-out, and clip threads for me, which made things go much faster!

Finished masks for week 2

The cats are not allowed into the excercise room, where we are making the masks, since they cannot have any pet fur on them. Poor Max and Oliver were so curious about what we were doing in there, and this is what I usually saw when I opened the door.

Finished masks for week 3

For week 4, the kits had ear loop elastics for the masks instead of ties, and they were much faster to complete!

Finished masks for week 4

For fun in week 5, they said to use thread in the color of the school you support. I did half of mine in U of U red, and half in BYU blue

Finished masks for week 5

For mask drop off at the DI, they had Cosmo the cougar, Waldo the Wildcat, and someone dressed as Captain Marvel along with the volunteers, which was fun.

They also handed out these cards and stickers

There was a break-week for Project Protect during Memorial Day week, so during that week I decided to make some more cloth masks for the family. Max was very excited that he could watch me cut them out.

I finished my Chuck marathon while sewing them

Can you guess which fabrics the kids picked out?

Max was able to continue one of his favorite activities - sitting/lying on papers

Sam decided to take it up a notch by making him a little tent of papers

Getting some good laughs from Jackbox games

The kids playing some Monopoly

We visited the Taco Bell drive-through for Cinco de Mayo 😬

Max sitting majestically on the laptop

The kids love to tease each other by changing the pictures and names on the Netflix profiles. (also - why did they do mine, but not Mike's?!)

Evie playing a game with her class during online school

Nora has been making sure Dorie is getting good use out of her new bandanas

When I was Facetiming with Kate, we thought it would be interesting to see what our cats did if we tried to get them to "chat" with each other. They were pretty funny!

We've done several puzzles

I still laugh at Dorie whenever I play the piano

Nora and Oliver - so cute!

Max is the funniest TV watching buddy

This month we learned about the existence of these cute little bugs - Japanese Bee Flies

Getting a special delivery of Crumbl Cookies

I was very excited the weekend they announced "Cats" the musical would be available to watch on "The Shows Must Go On"

Oliver was not too interested in it

Max was though

Nora and Mike watched it with me - they were not prepared for the weirdness. Haha!

Oliver being adorable while hoping for treats

 Some family hangout time

Sam made an "ABC Utah Book" for one of his final projects for the school year, since they have been studying Utah History.

The school dropped off a special treat and a yard sign to all the 6th graders, since they weren't able to do the usual 6th grade graduation festivities. We are proud of Ev for finishing elementary school!

The elementary school also had an end-of-the-year drive by parade, where the teachers and staff drove on a route through the school boundaries so the kids could see, and wave to their teachers
Waiting for the parade

Max is so long!

Sam found a new Youtube channel that he thinks is so funny and is always asking me to watch with him. It is called Dope or Nope and they order weird products from the internet, try them out, and then rate them either dope or nope.

 Dorie photobombing Max

Sam had fun designing some of his own Perler bead designs

Oliver was so sleepy one day and cuddled with Mike for a long time

Karin let us know about this fun zoom class that we signed up for. It is done by a tour company in Greece, and since tourism has been on hold, they are holding online classes through zoom. The one we did was about the connections to Greek Mythology in the Harry Potter books. It was really interesting and fun!

Max's grumpy face

Cozy Sam

Carrie is fostering another mama cat with kittens. We did a zoom so she could show us how cute they are and the funny things they do.

A curious little friend, and a wrestling match going on in the litter box, haha

Mike made a blueberry-cherry pie

The kids had the idea to do another King's Quest marathon, since it had been quite a while since we did it before. (The King's Quest series are computer games that were released in the 80s and 90s. There are 8 games in the original series). We took turns playing and watching on my laptop.

There is a part in the 3rd game where you have to make some spells, and if you mess up, there are bad, but hilarious consequences

We finally plugged the laptop into the TV so it was easier for everyone to see!

This was a fun vintage candy puzzle my mom sent to us

Kate had been practicing making sourdough loaves, and she brought us one, along with a container of herb butter. It was soooo delicious!
