Elementary Strings Spring Concert

On April 19, the girls had their spring orchestra recital.

Getting in some kitty cuddles before the concert for good luck

Evie has been playing viola in the Beginning Strings group, and Nora has been playing violin in the Intermediate Strings group this year. They have both made a lot of progress.

Their teacher announcing the Beginning Strings goup

The accompanist wasn't able to make it, so their teacher played the piano, and the assistant director conducted them. The tricky thing about violas is they stick them in the middle of the orchestra where you can't really see them...but we enjoyed listening!

Next up was the Intermediate Strings group

The awesome musicians!

Dragon Lights

On April 14, we met up with some of the fam to go to dinner at J Wong's Chinese and Thai Bistro, and then to the Dragon Lights Chinese Lantern Festival at the Utah fair grounds.

Playing some "Heads Up" while waiting for dinner

Enjoying some yummy Chinese dishes and Thai curry

Dragon Lights was spectacular! There were all kinds of lanterns and giant lighted sculptures on display. They reminded me a lot of the lighted float sculptures we saw in Aomori, Japan.

The kids especially enjoyed this little village of panda bears

This was a giant walk-through Sea Tunnel

We had to get a picture of my Dad next to his "favorite" - snails!

This dragon was enormous - you can see the silhouette  of an adult walking next to it

This was a really cool color-changing frog
