August Misc.

Here are a few more pictures from our August:

Mike texted me this picture from Costco - the first time we have seen Clorox wipes in stock for months!

Sam took this picture of Oliver, and thought he looked just like a sleeping Megalosaurus in a video game he plays

A screenshot of the Megalosaurus from the game - hehe

Mike taking a selfie with Juno

Mike saw a deer on one of his runs

Cute sleepy Oliver

The kitty boys being silly

The power of wielding the treat container

Playing Ticket to Ride

Marolynn comes for backyard visits, and Dorie and Oliver join us

Opening a Japan Crate!

Kate came for a backyard visit too, and Dorie was soooooooo thrilled to see her!! She loves her Aunt Kate!

This is a meeting of the "Juno is scary" support group

Nora saw some cute embroideries online, and that got her interested in learning how to do it herself. She found some tutorials on YouTube, and some sampler patterns to learn the different stitches.

You have to be careful of sneaky Juno when trying to do crafts!

After doing the sampler patterns, Nora did this unicorn embroidery pattern, and it turned out so cute!

Oliver brought a katydid in the house this month - better than a snake or a mouse

We got some Crumbl cookies during shark week, and the sugar cookie had a giant gummy shark on it

Cats look so funny when they are in tummy grooming position

Oliver patrolling the berry patch in the backyard

I accidentally turned on the light and woke up these sleepy boys

Nora is taking a Foods and Nutrition class from BYU Independent Study, and needs to cook some different recipes for each unit

Ugh, spoke too soon about Oliver not bringing in more snakes - poor Mike was working in the office, and when he closed his laptop, he saw something slithering on the desk. It was a very small garter snake.

We tried to catch it, but it was too fast and disappeared behind the desk where there are tons of cords. We looked and looked using flashlights, but were unable to find the snake!! We put Oliver in the office and closed the door, hoping he would find it and catch it again, but that didn't work either. At this point, we decided we'd just have to wait for it to come out again. Ugh. Nora said they can go a pretty long time without eating, so it might not come out for a while. Great. 😑

Max really loves Evie's Viola for some reason

Being Evie's study buddy

I was sitting in the chair and looked down to see these little crossed paws sticking out - hehe

I found out from Sam's teacher that neither the online classes, or the in-person classes were doing a social studies curriculum this year, and were focusing on the core subjects (math, language arts, and science) because of the shortened class times. 5th graders are supposed to be learning about US history and government, which I felt was important, so I found a home school history curriculum to do with him at home. The in-person students are also doing specialties - art, PE, and computers - but those aren't part of the online curriculum, so we've been doing those at home with him also.

Doing some art

When I was a kid, I LOVED this show called "The Secret City" that taught you how to draw, and I found some episodes on YouTube to show Sam. Someone had transferred them from their 30-year-old VHS tapes, so the quality was not great, but it was still fun.

What school-day mornings look like these days

Doing a history worksheet

Another exciting thing that happened this month is Evie got contacts, and has been learning how to put them in and take them out. It is a pretty tricky thing to learn, but she has been getting a lot better at it. These are her backup glasses, but I haven't seen her wear them much.

More Juno

Juno is settling in and getting more comfortable here. Since she is adorable and we've been taking tons of pictures of her, I thought I would do another post!

She is very interested in the owl in the cage in the HP room

Zoomies time!

She really likes the cat tree in the master bedroom

Getting a cute close-up, and then she yawned. Haha

She also has a strange obsession with Nora's sewing box. One night Mike and I were watching TV, and Nora had left her sewing box on our bed, and Juno pounced on it, and climbed all over it for quite a long time.

After she had worn herself out, she started watching TV with us, but still on her sewing box, hehe

Zoomies strike again!

Cuddling with Mike

The Animal Crossing game has little bugs that fly around on your island, so sometimes Juno "helps" us catch them!

Exploring the bathroom

She really enjoys getting attention

Being a cute little cat-loaf

She loves to explore

Blending in

She loves it when Mike does the feather teaser!

She is very curious about this crack between the parts of the sectional, and keeps sticking her arm down there. I don't think she has found anything yet, but she keeps trying.

A very good nap

We have been very gradually introducing her to the other pets, mostly the cats.
The first step was feeding them on either side of a closed door, and slowly moving their bowls a small bit closer to the door every day.

After we had done step one for several weeks, we moved on to the baby gate

Learning to tolerate having another cat in the same room

What the heck is this beast?!?
It is a little surprising since she is the smallest one, but all the other pets are actually scared of her since she has no fear of going after them! We still have a ways to go to get them all completely comfortable around each other, but she has made a lot of progress.

Another favorite hangout - the back of the chair

Sam started opening the shutters for Juno so she could get more sunshine, and she discovered her most favorite spot of all - the window sill.

When she sees birds out the window, she chatters at them (it is kind of quiet, so you might have to turn your volume up a bit to hear it)
