Last Day of School

The kids ready to go to their last day of school!

To celebrate, we got JCW's takeout for dinner, and watched "Lego Batman"

Dance Festival

We always enjoy going to the elementary school's end of the year tradition - the Dance Festival.

The 1st Grade did a line dance to "Boot Scootin' Boogie"

Lantern Fest

On the evening of May 20, we headed out to the Utah Motorsports Park in Tooele, to go to the Lantern Fest. It was a VERY popular event (we found out later that there were double the amount of people there this year than there were last year), so we were stuck in traffic for quite a while, but we did finally make it!

We each got a little box, that contained supplies for making s'mores, a marker if you wanted to write/draw something on your lantern, and instructions for how to light your lantern.

The kids especially loved making s'mores. They had little firepits all over the park for people to sit around.

Lighting and letting off a lantern is a 2-3 person job (one to light the square on the bottom, and one or two to hold up the paper part of the lantern), and it was a lot trickier than we were expecting it to be. You are supposed to light the square, and then hold it down close to the ground and allow it to fill up with hot air. When you feel it trying to tug upwards, then you let it go. They would often go up about 5 feet, and then start going horizontally, so we would chase it down so it wouldn't fly into someone else, and try again. It was a little chaotic, because a lot of people were having this issue! We did finally get them to go up into the sky.

It was a pretty spectacular sight to see thousands of lanterns floating up all around us!

After the lanterns, they had a fire dancer perform.
It was a very unique experience

Pokemon Birthday Party!

A sign to welcome our guests

The family room all decorated for the party!

The kids think that Dorie looks like a growlithe, so here she is next to the paper growlithe.

We had a picnic lunch themed buffet

The "potions" (drinks)

The 3 cakes - a pokeball, a great ball, and an ultra ball

Beth and Reece came dressed as pokemon trainers, and V was the cutest little Pikachu!

After lunch, Sarah from Wild Wonders brought some animals for us to meet!

Vienne was very curious about what was in those crates

The first animal we met was Hamlet the pig

Some of the kids got to feed him some treats

Toothpicks the hedgehog

This is Dusty the Chinchilla, who was pregnant!

The iguana - he is not full grown yet

Big Red, the boa

The kids were very brave and held her

Walnut the ferret was adorable! She put a little vest and leash on him to help him be easier to keep track of. He tried to burrow himself into the couch cushions a couple times.

Awww, that face!

Nora loves ferrets, and was so excited to hold him! Vienne really liked him, too.

This little tortoise didn't have a name yet, so the group thought up a lot of suggestions! V got up the courage to pet the tortoise, but wasn't so sure about holding him.

Our last animal guest was a Flemish Giant Rabbit

After the animals left, we got out the cakes and sang to the kids!

Blowing out the candles

Opening presents

Cute little V and Evie trying out the mermaid blankets!

We took a few last pictures by the Pokemon. The kids especially liked the giant Lapras
