We left the Old Faithful Inn and started the drive to Cody, Wyoming.
We stopped at another visitor's center on our way out of Yellowstone
"Trying on" an antler
Bison out in the field
We made a stop at the Pahaska Tepee, which was Buffalo Bill's original hunting lodge.
These deer "holding" the skis were interesting 😬
The man who told us about the lodge sure looked a lot like Buffalo Bill!
We continued on our bus drive, and passed a lot of beautiful landscape
Our tour mascots that rode with us on the bus:
T. Roosevelt the grizzly bear
and Frankfurt the Jackalope
When we made it to Cody, we visited the Buffalo Bill Center of the West - which is 5 different museums in one building
Tauck had made a special scavenger hunt booklet for all the kids. It has questions and activities for them to do in each of the museums.
First we visited the Plains Indians Museum
Next was the Draper Natural History Museum. This was the kids' favorite museum because of all the animals
This was one of my favorite exhibits. It showed an inside look at underground burrows and the animals that live in them, including prairie dogs, burrowing owls, snakes and ferrets.
Next up was the Buffalo Bill Museum, where we got to learn all about William F. Cody himself
Most of the exhibits in the Cody Firearms Museum were undergoing remodeling, so we just took a quick look in there
Next was the Whitney Western Art Museum
For their scavenger hunt activity, they were supposed to look through the gallery, and pick out their favorite piece of art and write down the name, and then pick out their least favorite and write down the name.
Here were the favorites:
Here were the least favorites:
They also got to do a drawing at the art desks that had a great view out the window
The prize for finishing their scavenger hunt booklet was getting a free ice cream at the ice cream counter!
Some adorable pictures Beth took of V while we were there
We spent our whole time at the Buffalo Bill Center and didn't have time to walk down in the town of Cody, but we did drive past Buffalo Bill's Irma Hotel.
Next we got checked into our Cody hotel - the Holiday Inn Express.
We had a special dinner in the Bandana Room that night
An interesting display of different kinds of barbed wire
Everyone got a cowboy hat and a fake mustache, and the kids got to sit at their own tables
The girls' table
Evie rocking her new look
The boys' table
First Sam tried out his mustache
Then decided to try it as a beard
After dinner we headed to the Cody Nite Rodeo
The youngest kids sat on the back of Mongo the bull
When naming their advertisers, they had a rider with a flag with the advertiser's logo run across the stadium
Calf roping
Bucking Bronco
The rodeo clown - they kids were interested in watching him because Nora got "rodeo clown" for her future career when playing MASH, and they wanted to see what kind of things she would have to do, hehe
The sunset clouds were beautiful
At half-time, they had all the kids come down
They had two little calves with a flag attached on their tails, and they had the kids run after them to try and get the flag. Nora ended up getting one of the flags, and she got a prize!
One of the bull riders - I found these pretty stressful to watch 😬
