Cub Scout Day Camp

While we were in Carmel, Sam got to go on his first Cub Scout day camp! He had a great time!

Here are a few pictures his leader sent:

Carmel Trip: Day 4

On our last day, we had breakfast and lunch at the house to use up the rest of the food we had bought.

We roasted marshmallows on the fire pit on the patio and made s'mores

A sisters picture in the recliners in the theater room in the basement

In the afternoon before we headed to the airport, we stopped to visit the Carmel Mission

This is a cork tree

They had a beautiful nativity scene on display inside

We enjoyed walking around the beautiful grounds

We ran into some crazy California traffic on the drive to the airport, but luckily still made it in time for our flight. It was such a fun trip and it was great to spend the time with family!

After the trip, Karin sent us these cute "then and now" collages, with pictures of her and my mom in Carmel when she was a baby, and pictures in the same places from our current trip.

Carmel Trip: Day 3

Our third day started out with a relaxing morning at the house

Playing with Grandpop

Beth and V doing some art

We went in to town, and had brunch at the Tuck Box, an adorable English tea room restaurant

It is very small, cozy, and charming

This was at the bottom of the menu - the last line made me laugh

They have really fun and whimsical teapots that they use. Several at our table ordered hot cocoa, so we got a butterfly and cow teapot of cocoa

One of the things they are most famous for here are their scones

The whole crew!

After eating, we strolled the streets and browsed in some of the stores and art galleries
This antique shop had a live parrot

V twirling on the stack of rugs

The town is filled with charming buildings, with beautiful window boxes and gardens

We passed by a Rodrique gallery, which the kids would have recognized since they did a "Blue Dog" art project with Grammy

We saw lots and lots of dogs! We got to meet and pet several of them

We had to go look inside of the Cottage of Sweets

Sam would love it in here, haha

We went to a store called The White Rabbit that sells all kinds of Alice in Wonderland themed things

One of their specialties is backwards clocks

So many beautiful flowers!

V found a little fountain with two golden fish in it

V liked sitting on this little wall with all of her "friends"

For dinner, we ate at Tarpy's Roadhouse

They have a beautiful garden patio out in front of the restaurant

V had a fun time visiting everyone during dinner

For appetizers, we got an artichoke, bruchetta, and this giant German pretzel

Beth had brought a special birthday present for Karin. She had found some old pictures of when Karin was a baby, and made her an album with them. It was especially fun to see the pictures of when my parents had taken baby Karin to Carmel!

Mike and the beautiful view out the window

Karin with her special birthday dessert!

V was pretty excited about the balloons that had been on our table

Back at the house, we had a special dessert tasting. The group that had gone antiquing in Monterey, had gotten some Turkish desserts for all of us to sample, including 6 types of Turkish delight, tulumba, and baklava.

Ricky was the designated Turkish delight cutter, and cut each log into 10 pieces so everyone could try them. There were a variety of flavors, including rose (with dried rose petals on the outside), sesame seed, pistachio, chocolate, and banana.

Mmmm! I have not been a huge fan of most of the packaged Turkish delight I have tried in my life, but this stuff was really fresh and good! The tulumba reminded us of churros soaked in honey, and the baklava was very tasty as well!

For our movie that night, we watched "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them"
